ABOUT ME

Hello, I am Daniela Santibanez, a Chilean photographer based in New York City.

I was born and raised in Santiago, where I lived most of my life until I moved to New York City. Along with a new home, the City brought many changes. Somehow, it felt as if everything here was waiting for me. I began traveling a lot, seeing new cities, foreign countries and exposing myself to new cultures, people, traditions and landscapes. These experiences and my continuous studies on photography mostly at the International Center of Photography (ICP) and at School of Visual Arts (SVA) have allowed me to become a professional photographer. After some years of this life’s journey, I became a mom and inspired by my son, I felt encouraged to continue by myself and share my vision, my creation, with the world.

For me photography has always been a significant part of who I am. Photography is my passion and the way I communicate my thoughts, feelings, and ideas. Through my photographs, I strive to capture powerful portraits of life - images that, in color or black and white, express the beauty of our human commonality.

When I am holding the camera I am a versatile professional. I am patient, and serene photographer, moving confidently around newborns, respecting their needs and times. I am playful around children in order to capture spontaneous and natural portraits. At the same time, I enjoy connecting with couples and assisting them to tell their stories visually. I enjoy capturing the spirit of maternity, the anticipation, deep love, and tenderness of expecting a child. I shoot family photos that encapsulate memories and dreams in enjoyable and natural situations. All of these attributes converge when I photograph any special occasion such as a birthday party, a wedding, a family reunion, or meet up; I really enjoy capturing fresh and spontaneous life moments.

Hola, soy Daniela Santibanez, fotógrafa chilena residente en la ciudad de Nueva York.

Nací y crecí en Santiago, donde viví la mayor parte de mi vida hasta que me mudé a la ciudad de Nueva York. Junto con un nuevo hogar, la ciudad trajo muchos cambios. De alguna manera, sentía como si todo lo que estaba aquí me estaba esperando. Comencé a viajar mucho, viendo nuevas ciudades, países extranjeros y exponiéndome a nuevas culturas, personas, tradiciones y paisajes. Estas experiencia y los continuos estudios sobre fotografía principalmente en el International Center of Photography (ICP) y en School of Visual Arts (SVA), me han permitido convertirme en una fotógrafa profesional. Después de algunos años en este viaje de vida me convertí en madre y junto con la inspiración de mi hijo, me motivé a independizarme y compartir mi visión, mis creaciones con la gente.

Para mí, la fotografía siempre ha sido una parte importante de lo que soy. La fotografía es mi pasión y la forma en que comunico mis pensamientos, sentimientos e ideas. A través de mis fotografías, me esfuerzo por capturar poderosos retratos de la vida, imágenes que, en color o en blanco y negro, expresan la belleza de nuestra comunidad humana.

Cuando sostengo mi cámara soy una profesional versátil. Soy una fotógrafa paciente y serena, moviéndome con confianza alrededor de los recién nacidos, respetando sus necesidades y tiempos. Soy lúdica con los niños para capturar retratos espontáneos y naturales. Al mismo tiempo, disfruto conectándome con parejas y ayudándoles a contar visualmente sus historias. Disfruto capturando el espíritu de la maternidad, la anticipación, el amor profundo y la ternura de esperar un hijo. Tomo fotografías en familia que encapsulan recuerdos y sueños en situaciones agradables y naturales. Todos estos atributos convergen cuando fotografío alguna ocasión especial, como una fiesta de cumpleaños, una boda o una reunión de amigos; es que realmente disfruto capturando momentos de vida alegres y espontáneos.
